Hello

I'm Rachel Louise Mills, a Fitness Professional with over a decade of industry experience.

I was born in 1982, which meant I was a teen in the 90's, coming of age in the decade that saw the World Wide Web launched into the public domain, being supermodel skinny was in fashion and low fat everything diets were really a thing.

I was a healthy kid but not sporty in the least and I definitely did not have any fitness or nutrition knowledge at that time.  I went to Uni, drank a lot of alcohol and ate a lot of hangover toasted sandwiches!  I wasn't happy with how I looked or felt and did typical things like jogging and sit ups which don't work for fat loss or create a toned body.

Back then, I found the gym environment intimidating and would never have gone there on my own.  Luckily, I had a boyfriend who was a qualified fitness instructor and he shared his knowledge of strength training and nutrition protocols with me, which changed everything.  For the first time in my life I felt lean, strong and in control of my future health.

My Story

After Uni, I worked for the Probation Service; it was both interesting and stressful, in addition to being mainly desk bound.  It was here that I first started to learn about supporting people with positive behaviour change.  I spent my evenings either in the gym or researching nutrition on the internet.  I realised that what I initially considered a hobby had become my main passion and I wanted to share that knowledge and help others too.

In the year I turned 30, I qualified as a Personal Trainer in London and have worked in the fitness industry continuously since then.  A shoulder injury led me to Yoga as I was told certain postures would be a great way to stabilize and rehabilitate it.  I was a bit reluctant, feeling that Yoga was something slow, not physically challenging enough and possibly for older people - I quickly understood my own ignorance and have re-educated myself massively since then!

Yoga was a revelation for me as I realised the benefits were off the scale in terms of both physical and mental health. I found it to be a great compliment to gym based exercise since it helps improve exercise form, posture and recovery.  Like many others, I have struggled with stress and anxiety at various times in my life and Yoga provided

a whole new set of skills which I could use as a personal therapeutic tool to cope with the challenges of a busy modern life.  I knew I had to integrate Yoga into my fitness offering to give a complete and balanced service to my clients.

In 2016, I gained a diploma in teaching Yoga.  This gave me the confidence to work with a wider variety of clients, often with more specific concerns and health conditions.  It allowed me to integrate Yoga into my PT sessions, as well as teach it one to one and in group class format.  Over the last ten years, I've worked in commercial gyms, boutique studios, in clients' own homes and I have also taught my own retreats in rural Spain.  I believe that mental fitness is equally important as physical fitness and I strive to help my clients achieve both.

I teach Hatha Yoga classes that I aim to make accessible for everyone who wants to try, and also offer Personal Training services for those who would like a bespoke programme to achieve a more personal goal.  I can design a programme that incorporates any combination of gym or home based exercise, nutritional support and yogic techniques, which include postures, breathing exercises and meditation.

I can help with typical goals like weight loss, gaining strength, muscle mass or flexibility.  I have also worked with many clients with more specific issues, such as resolving back pain, improving postural problems and developing programmes that support mental health conditions like anxiety and PTSD.

I offer a free, no obligation consultation to discuss your needs in detail and am dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all of my clients.  Come and join me on the mat or in the gym!
